The Solar Eclipse Rocks The World !

On August 17, 2017. South Carolina State University was now in the astronomy history books. The States HBCU was among 70 sites across the country participating in a national research initiative with historical promises. The last occurrence was in 1918.




 Total Eclipse viewing events:
  • - Oregon - Missouri - Tennessee
  • - Idaho    - Illinois    - North Crolina
  • - Wyoming - Kansas - Georgia 
  • - Nebraska - Kentucky - South Carolina


  1. Dont look directly at the sun. 
  2. Regular Glasses are not good for the sun. 
  3. No camera, telescope or binoculars 



Orangeburg, South Carolina at SC State people of all ages and different areas of the country were at attendance of The Solar Eclipse.

The Phases of The Eclipse:
  1. First Contact: Moon starts to overlap the sun
  2. Second Contact: Moon starts to cover the whole sun
  3. Totality: The sun is completely covered by the moon
  4. Third Contact: Moon starts to move away. Sun starts to reappear.
  5. Fourth Contact : Moon no longer covers the sun. Eclipse is over.
